I haven’t released any videos for a while—or rather, for two years.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who has been following my channel and stayed with me.
It’s not that I haven’t been doing pottery. It’s more about the burden the digital world created, with its pressure to always be present everywhere. I needed to step back from that pressure and simply focus on my craft. Pottery is a slow process—it requires being fully present in your work and carefully guiding every movement of your hands.
Here is a simple, real-time throwing and trimming video of a small vessel made from black stoneware clay. This summer, I saw an ancient pot in a museum with this shape. While my goal wasn't to replicate it, I knew I wanted to create something inspired by its simple and minimalistic form.
I used a dark-firing stoneware clay, similar to the original ancient pot (unlike the terracotta I usually see). The clay was a bit stiff and stubborn, and you can see in the video that I struggled with it at times. Working with this clay reminded me of the Bible verse from Isaiah 64:8:
“But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”
We too can be stubborn and stiff, but in the hands of the Master, we are formed—gently, slowly, and consistently—until we take the shape He intended, becoming a receptacle of life through His hands.
