Ceramic box with cobalt blue ice-crackle glaze

This glaze on the box likes only flat surfaces as its runny, but then it produces amazing play of light when light reflects through the cracks of the glaze.

Sometimes I don’t believe that I made this. This is one of those times, but as the box has my tiny mark at the bottom, it must be so. 😊

I have three different recipes of ice-crackle glaze that I use, they all have different properties, provide different look and are suitable for different surfaces. This glaze on the box likes only flat surfaces as its runny, but then it produces amazing play of light when light reflects through the cracks of the glaze.

Black stoneware jars with white torn texture

The look resembles a tree trunk or a dried earth, which it actually is.
The effect is achieved with drying the outside of the body rapidly with a help of sodium silicate and a torch. Made from the Spanish black stoneware clay and the texture is filled with white engobe to bring out the contrast between white and black.
